General Guidelines

Don’t feed you Havanese within six hours of the trip.

Allow your Havanese to go potty just before the trip.

Make sure there is fresh bedding in any travel crate.

Travel by Airlines

Traveling by airlines, you will need an approved travel bag that you can find at most pet stores. The Havanese can travel with you in the plane placed in front of your feet in the approved travel bag. However not all airlines take pets. Before you travel by airline check to see which carriers will accept you and your pet traveling in the passenger cabin. There will be a pet charge and this varies by airline. Also airlines will only accept a limited number of pets on each flight. You must make the reservation for your pet at the same time you make your personal reservation.

Before you travel with your Havanese let your pet get used to the pet carrier he will be in. Start this at home and for short periods.

Look for direct flights whenever possible, as this limits the length of time your pet will be confined to the flight carrier. If direct flights are not possible, make sure that you take you Havanese out for a stretch, some water and some attention at the layovers.

Airlines generally require that you have health certificates and proof of vaccinations.

Travel by Car

Never leave you Havanese unattended in a car.

Keep your Havanese on a lease on any stop you make and take him out of the car.

Offer your Havanese water at every stop.

Some hotels take pets and some do not. Check with any hotel you plan on staying at prior to making your reservations. Pet charges normally apply.

Travel by Train

Generally is not allowed unless your Havanese is a service dog. Local rail services have their own rules so check in advance.

Boarding Kennels

If you are considering placing your Havanese in a boarding kennel, one of the better discussions of what to consider and what to look for is provided by the Humane Society at this link:

Vets When Traveling

Often overlooked is thinking ahead about veterinarian care when traveling. A good resource is to get references from your veterinarian before you travel to your destination.

Yellow pages.com will locate veterinarians by city and state:

Another valuable source of information is veterinarian schools across the country.

There is a source on the web that lists veterinarians in various states and in many countries around the globe:

Pet-Friendly Hotels

If you are planning a trip here is a good resource for hotel and resorts that accept your pet:

Pet Sitters
